In addition to a large demand for facility electricity and heat, these plants often have a significant requirement for steam, hot water, chilled water, plus air conditioning, cooling and cold storage. In addition, continuous power is often critical for many of the processes, as outages and brownouts are a threat to product quality, production and, ultimately, profit margins.

A Combined Heat and Power (CHP) or Combined Cooling, Heat and Power (CCHP) scheme can deliver a large majority if not all of a plant’s electricity and heat requirements, often seeing up to a 40% saving in energy costs, plus a reduction in carbon emissions.
